Jesus went out bearing His own cross to the place called the Place of
the Skull (Golgotha) only once. However, Lebanon’s destiny is to
bear its cross and walk this road everyday…
It has been the destiny of the Gemayel’s, from Bashir to Pierre, and
their friends in the Kataeb and Lebanese Forces to follow this
pathway…
Pierre, like Bashir, was martyred because he believed in a cause; a
free and independent Lebanon…
We are not here to point fingers as to who may have assassinated
Pierre Gemayel, but rather we are here to pray… We need to pray for
all of our leaders; Christians and Muslims, March 8th and March 14th
groups. We need to pray for them to make the right decisions, for any
group failing to do so will place Lebanon on its path to destruction….
At the same time, as individuals, as well as an American-Lebanese
community as a whole, we have to ask ourselves this question: Where
do we stand in regards to the Lebanese cause? Do we actually
deserve the sacrifice of this young man who has left behind two little
children, a heart broken wife, and a devastated mother and father?
Only you can answer.
I see amongst you veterans who fought for Lebanon and new
activists who have joined the fight... If we join efforts, we can bring a
much better and stronger result for our cause...
On a more personal note… from here, near the altar of God, we say to
Sheikh Pierre and we reassure sheikh Bashir that we will continue the
fight for our beloved Lebanon.
